Junko Kitanaka
Junko Kitanaka is a professor in the Department of Human Sciences at Keio University, who focuses on the anthropology of (neuro)psychiatry, depression, and more recently dementia. Her publications include Depression in Japan: Psychiatric Cures for a Society in Distress, and articles such as “The Limits of Empathy: The Dementia Tōjisha Movement in Japan” (Journal of the History of the Behavioral Sciences, 2021) and “In the Mind of Dementia: Neurobiological Empathy, Incommensurability, and the Dementia Tojisha Movement in Japan” (Medical Anthropology Quarterly, 2020).
