The Asia-Pacific Journal: Japan Focus is a reader-supported journal. We invite your support at a time when the Asia-Pacific and our world is being turned upside down by the combination of US-China conflict in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic coinciding with economic, political, climate and nuclear crisis. Akiko Hashimoto is Visiting Professor of Sociology and Asian Studies at Portland State University, and Faculty Fellow at the Center for Cultural Sociology at Yale University.

She is author and editor of several volumes on cultural sociology and comparative sociology. Her latest volume is The Long Defeat: Cultural Trauma, Memory and Identity in Japan (Oxford University Press, 2015), available also in Japanese (Misuzu Shobo, 2017) and Chinese (Beijing Imaginist, 2019).
