Akiko Hashimoto is Visiting Professor of Sociology and Asian Studies at Portland State University, and Faculty Fellow at the Center for Cultural Sociology at Yale University.

She is author and editor of several volumes on cultural sociology and comparative sociology. Her latest volume is The Long Defeat: Cultural Trauma, Memory and Identity in Japan (Oxford University Press, 2015), available also in Japanese (Misuzu Shobo, 2017) and Chinese (Beijing Imaginist, 2019).
