Michiel Baas
Michiel Baas holds a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Amsterdam. Between 2013-2019 he was a research fellow with the Asian Migration cluster of the Asia Research Institute (National University of Singapore). During this period he published extensively on the topic of Indian student-migration to Australia (also the topic of his PhD research); skilled migrants in Singapore; and the Indian migration industry facilitating the outflow of skilled workers to Asia and the Middle East. Besides that his research work engages with the topic of new middle class formation and social mobility in India, as well as on questions of gender, sexuality and masculinity. In August 2020 his next book will be published titled Muscular India: Masculinity, Mobility and the New Middle Class (Delhi: Context).
